NEW DELHI, May 3 : Healthcare industry body NATHEALTH on Sunday said the government's move to ease height restrictions for hospitals subject to enhanced fire safety norms will help ease infrastructure constraints and improve access to healthcare.
In a statement, NATHEALTH said the revised building bylaws will allow hospitals to build taller structures, thereby increasing bed capacity in urban areas where land is scarce. The organization noted that this change is expected to reduce the cost of healthcare delivery by optimizing land use.
The government's decision, announced earlier this week, modifies urban building norms to permit hospitals to exceed previous height limits if they comply with stricter fire safety measures. NATHEALTH emphasized that the move aligns with the goal of expanding healthcare infrastructure to meet growing demand.
Industry experts estimate that the new norms could lead to a 15-20% increase in hospital bed availability in major cities over the next five years, though these figures are projections and not yet confirmed by official data.
