Members of Parliament have directed the State Corporations Advisory Committee to pursue former National Youth Service (NYS) managers and board members to recover millions of shillings lost during their tenure. The directive follows a review by the Auditor General that identified significant financial losses.
The Public Investments Committee on Social Services, chaired by MP David ole Sankok, issued the order after questioning the NYS board and management over the losses. The committee noted that the Auditor General's report indicated the monies may have been misappropriated through irregular procurement and payment processes.
The MPs specifically named former NYS Director General Richard Ndubai and former board chairman John Njiraini as among those who should be held accountable. The committee gave the regulator 30 days to report back on the recovery efforts.
The National Youth Service has been plagued by corruption scandals in recent years, with the latest losses estimated at over 1 billion Kenyan shillings. The committee also recommended that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission investigate the matter further.
