Firefighters have extinguished a wildfire near Indonesia's Mount Bromo, a popular tourist destination in East Java, after it burned approximately 550 hectares of land. However, authorities have reported new hotspots emerging in the area, raising concerns about potential flare-ups.
The fire, which was first reported in early August 2026, affected parts of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The park's status was temporarily elevated, and some tourist activities were restricted to ensure safety. No injuries or fatalities have been reported.
According to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the fire was brought under control by August 10, 2026, but new hotspots have been detected. Firefighting teams remain on standby to monitor the situation and respond to any new outbreaks.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Authorities have urged visitors and local residents to avoid activities that could spark new fires, especially during the dry season.
