Morocco's clothing exports to Spain declined by 3.6% in the first half of 2026, according to trade data. Spain, Morocco's largest market for apparel, reduced its purchases of Moroccan clothing to approximately €803 million, down from €833 million in the same period a year earlier.
The decline comes as Turkish suppliers expand their share of the Spanish apparel market. Turkey's geographic proximity, shorter lead times, and competitive pricing have made it an increasingly attractive alternative for Spanish buyers.
Morocco's textile and clothing sector is a key employer and export earner, with Europe as its primary destination. The loss of momentum in Spain, its top customer, raises concerns for Moroccan manufacturers facing intensifying competition from both Turkey and Asian producers.
Industry analysts note that Moroccan exporters may need to focus on faster delivery, higher-value products, and sustainability credentials to defend their position in the Spanish market. The sector has benefited from nearshoring trends in recent years, but the latest figures suggest that advantage is being tested.
