Former Moroccan international footballers Mustapha Hadji and Youssef Chippo have publicly defended Morocco's designation as host of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially awarded the hosting rights to Morocco in September 2023, following the withdrawal of original hosts Guinea.

In recent public statements, both ex-players have emphasized Morocco's proven infrastructure and organizational capabilities. Hadji, a former African Footballer of the Year, highlighted the country's experience from hosting major events like the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup. Chippo, his former teammate, pointed to the existing world-class stadiums and training facilities as key assets.

The decision to award the tournament to Morocco has been subject to ongoing discussion within African football circles. Some criticism has focused on the rotational hosting system and the process that led to the change. The comments from Hadji and Chippo represent a direct response to this sustained debate, aiming to bolster public and regional confidence in the upcoming event.

The 2025 tournament will be the second time Morocco hosts the AFCON, having previously staged the competition in 1988. Preparations are ongoing, with the tournament scheduled for the summer of 2025.
