According to Morocco's foreign trade statistics, the country imported aircraft and other aerial or space vehicles worth 3.988 billion Moroccan dirhams (MAD) between January and June 2026. This represents a significant increase compared to 1.688 billion MAD during the same period in 2025, more than doubling year-on-year.
The data, released by the Office des Changes, highlights a growing demand for aircraft, likely driven by the expansion of national carrier Royal Air Maroc and the country's ambition to become a regional aviation hub. The figures include purchases of airplanes, helicopters, and other aerial vehicles.
In US dollar terms, the 2026 first-half imports amount to approximately $1 billion, based on an exchange rate of about 10 MAD per USD. The surge underscores Morocco's investment in modernizing its fleet and infrastructure to support tourism and cargo operations.
Industry analysts note that the increase may also reflect deliveries of new aircraft ordered in previous years. Morocco has been investing heavily in its aviation sector, including the construction of new airports and the expansion of existing ones, to accommodate growing passenger traffic.
