The two teams have a competitive history in the WAFCON. Nigeria has won the tournament a record 11 times, while Morocco reached the final in 2022, losing to South Africa. In the 2024 edition, Morocco defeated Nigeria 2-1 in the semifinals on their way to winning their first title.
The winner of this quarterfinal will face either South Africa or Zambia in the semifinals. The final is set for August 15, 2026, at the same venue in Rabat.
