Morocco's tourism revenue increased by 15.9% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year, reaching 52 billion Moroccan dirhams (approximately $5.2 billion), according to the Ministry of Tourism. The growth was driven by a record 7.4 million tourist arrivals in the first six months of the year, up 20% from 2025.
The Ministry attributed the surge to Morocco's successful hosting of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and increased flight connectivity from Europe and North America. The government has set a target of 17.5 million tourists by 2030, ahead of the FIFA World Cup that Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
Tourism remains a key pillar of Morocco's economy, contributing around 7% of GDP and supporting over 500,000 jobs. The sector's recovery has outpaced pre-pandemic levels, with revenue in 2026 already exceeding the full-year 2019 figure of 78 billion dirhams.
Industry experts note that the growth is also supported by investments in new hotels and the expansion of the national airline Royal Air Maroc. However, they caution that global economic uncertainty and regional competition could pose challenges in the second half of the year.
