According to data from the Spanish energy authorities, Spain exported 996,000 tonnes of petroleum products to Morocco between January and May 2026, making Morocco the leading destination for Spanish oil product exports during that period.
This figure represents a significant share of Spain's total petroleum product exports, which reached approximately 8.5 million tonnes in the first five months of the year. The increase in exports to Morocco is attributed to Morocco's growing energy demand and its reliance on imports to meet domestic consumption.
The data, released by the Spanish Corporation of Strategic Reserves (CORES), indicates that Morocco surpassed other major buyers such as France and Portugal. This trend reflects the strengthening economic ties between the two neighboring countries, particularly in the energy sector.
Analysts note that Morocco's refining capacity is limited, and the country has been increasing imports of refined products to support its industrial and transportation sectors. The Spanish exports include gasoline, diesel, and other refined fuels.
