The Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs in Morocco has announced that the observation of the Shawwal crescent moon, which marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid al-Fitr, will take place on Thursday, 29 Ramadan 1447 AH, corresponding to March 19, 2026, after the Maghrib prayer.

The ministry's statement, as reported by official Moroccan news agency MAP, calls upon the regional and local moon sighting committees across the kingdom to observe the horizon after sunset on that date. The sighting of the crescent moon is necessary to confirm the start of the Islamic month of Shawwal and the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.

If the crescent is sighted on Thursday evening, Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on Friday, March 20, 2026. If not sighted, the month of Ramadan will complete 30 days, and Eid will be observed on Saturday, March 21. The final announcement will be made by the ministry following the observation process.

This annual procedure is a standard religious practice in Morocco for determining the dates of Islamic holidays based on the lunar calendar and local moon sighting.
