Morocco's Ministry of Islamic Affairs has officially announced that Eid al-Adha (Aid Al-Adha) will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. The decision was based on the sighting of the crescent moon, confirming the start of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah.
Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the most important holidays in Islam. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. Muslims traditionally sacrifice an animal, such as a sheep or goat, and distribute the meat to family, friends, and those in need.
The announcement was made on May 18, 2026, following a meeting of the ministry's lunar observation committee. The date aligns with astronomical calculations and previous predictions for the Islamic calendar year 1447 AH.
