Morocco's Ministry of the Interior has issued a stern reminder to ride-hailing applications operating in the country, including InDrive and Careem, to strictly adhere to national transport regulations. The move, reported on May 29, 2026, follows concerns over the proliferation of digital transport services that operate outside the legal framework.
The ministry emphasized that all passenger transport activities must comply with Law 115-21, which governs the sector. This law requires drivers to hold professional licenses and vehicles to meet specific safety standards. Non-compliant platforms risk legal action, including fines and suspension of services.
According to official statements, the crackdown aims to protect passengers and ensure fair competition with traditional taxis. The ministry has called on app-based services to regularize their operations within a set deadline or face penalties.
This is not the first time Moroccan authorities have targeted unregulated transport apps. In 2023, similar warnings led to temporary suspensions of some services. The current enforcement appears broader, covering both local and international platforms.
