Morocco has submitted two customs classification requests to the World Customs Organization (WCO) for automotive products, including two types of vehicles and a keyless entry system. The requests were placed on the draft agenda of the 78th session of the Harmonized System Committee (HSC), which began on August 12, 2026, according to official WCO documents.
The first request concerns the classification of two types of motor vehicles, while the second deals with a keyless access system for vehicles. These submissions aim to clarify the tariff classification under the Harmonized System, which is used globally to determine customs duties and trade statistics.
The HSC, which meets twice a year in Brussels, is responsible for ensuring the uniform interpretation and application of the Harmonized System. Morocco's proposals will be reviewed by member states and the WCO Secretariat, with decisions expected to be published after the session concludes.
This move reflects Morocco's growing automotive industry, which has become a significant exporter to Europe and Africa. Accurate classification is crucial for manufacturers and exporters to avoid delays and penalties at borders.
