Morocco's National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) has announced a new standardization of vehicle license plates, aligning their model and dimensions for both domestic and international use. The decision, issued by the Ministry of Transport, aims to modernize the registration system and improve readability.
According to official sources, the new plates will no longer feature the international code 'MA' on the left side, a change that aligns with international standards where the country code is optional. The plates will maintain the current format of digits and Arabic letters, but with updated dimensions and font.
The measure applies to all new vehicles registered after the implementation date. Existing vehicles will not be required to change their plates immediately, but will need to comply upon renewal or transfer of registration. NARSA has stated that the change will facilitate vehicle identification and enhance road safety.
This harmonization is part of broader efforts to digitize and streamline Morocco's vehicle registration system, which has been ongoing since 2021. The agency has not yet specified the exact date of entry into force, but it is expected to be published in the official bulletin.
