FIFA has officially selected Morocco, Spain, and Portugal as the co-hosts for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The decision, announced in late 2023, marks the first time the tournament will be held across three continents. The opening three matches will be played in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay to commemorate the tournament's centenary.
The joint bid, initially between Spain and Portugal, was expanded to include Morocco in March 2023. This will be the first World Cup hosted in Africa since 2010. The tournament is scheduled to take place in the summer of 2030, with the final match expected to be held in Spain.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated the selection celebrates football's global unity. The hosting plan has drawn some logistical questions due to the geographical spread, but organizers emphasize it highlights historical and cultural connections across the Mediterranean and beyond.
