Morocco's Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced the creation of six new territorial health groups (Groupements Territoriaux de Santé, GTS) effective September 2026. This move is part of the ongoing reform to decentralize healthcare management and improve service delivery across the kingdom.
The new GTS will be established in the regions of Béni Mellal-Khénifra, Drâa-Tafilalet, Guelmim-Oued Noun, Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab, and Oriental. According to the ministry, these groups will manage public health facilities and coordinate care within their territories, aiming to reduce regional disparities in access to healthcare.
This initiative follows the creation of the first GTS in 2024 in other regions, as part of the framework law on the national health system. The reform seeks to strengthen governance, optimize resources, and bring decision-making closer to citizens.
Health experts note that the success of these groups will depend on adequate funding and trained personnel. The ministry has pledged to support the transition with capacity-building programs and infrastructure investments.
