On Saturday, April 25, 2026, on the sidelines of the 18th International Agricultural Show in Meknès, the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, represented by the Directorate for the Development of Production Sectors (DDFP), signed a framework agreement to promote the Bergui sheep breed in the Oriental region.
The agreement aims to preserve and enhance this local genetic heritage, which is well adapted to the region's climatic conditions. It involves collaboration with professional organizations and research institutions to improve breeding practices and market access.
This initiative is part of Morocco's Green Generation strategy, which seeks to develop sustainable agriculture and support rural communities. The Bergui breed is known for its hardiness and meat quality, making it a valuable resource for local livestock farmers.
