Morocco signed the Artemis Accords on April 29, 2026, during a ceremony in Rabat, becoming the 64th nation to join the U.S.-led framework for responsible space exploration. The signing took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with Moroccan officials and NASA representatives present.
The Artemis Accords, established in 2020, outline principles for peaceful, transparent, and interoperable space activities, including the extraction of space resources. Morocco's commitment aligns with its growing interest in space technology and satellite development.
NASA Administrator Bill Nelson welcomed Morocco, stating, 'We are thrilled to have Morocco join the Artemis Accords. This partnership strengthens our shared vision for a sustainable and cooperative future in space.'
Morocco has invested in space infrastructure, including the launch of its first satellite, Mohammed VI-A, in 2017. The country aims to leverage space technology for agriculture, disaster management, and telecommunications.
