Morocco and Senegal have officially launched the 'RTS-Coupe du Monde 2026' campaign, celebrating football as a vehicle for African unity. The initiative, announced on May 15, 2026, aims to harness the continent's passion for the sport ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The campaign was unveiled during a joint press conference in Rabat, Morocco, attended by officials from both countries. According to the Moroccan Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, the campaign will include cultural exchanges, youth football tournaments, and digital content highlighting African solidarity. No specific budget or timeline has been disclosed.
Senegal's Minister of Sports, Matar Ba, emphasized that the campaign is not about competition but about showcasing Africa's collective spirit. 'Football is a powerful tool to bring people together,' Ba stated. 'This campaign will amplify African voices on a global stage.'
Morocco's Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, echoed this sentiment, noting that the campaign builds on Morocco's successful bid to co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal. 'We want to show the world that Africa is united through sport,' Bensaid said.
The campaign has received support from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which praised the initiative as a model for continental cooperation. CAF President Patrice Motsepe said in a statement, 'This is a wonderful example of how football can transcend borders and inspire unity.'
