Moroccan prosecutors have requested prison sentences of up to two years for 18 Senegalese football fans, according to reports from the Moroccan state news agency MAP. The individuals were arrested following incidents after a match in Marrakech.
The fans were detained after a CAF Champions League semi-final first-leg match between Wydad Athletic Club and Senegal's AS Douanes on April 5, 2026. The incidents reportedly involved clashes and acts of vandalism.
The public prosecutor's office in Marrakech has charged the individuals with charges including participation in a criminal gang, violence against public officials, and destruction of property. The trial is ongoing at the Marrakech Court of Appeal.
This case highlights ongoing challenges with fan violence in football. Moroccan authorities have recently taken a firm stance against hooliganism at sporting events.
