Morocco is accelerating the development of its video game industry through a strategic partnership with Chinese technology giant Huawei. The collaboration, announced by the Moroccan Digital Development Agency (ADD), aims to build local capacity in game development and cloud gaming technologies.
The initiative includes the creation of a dedicated "Gaming Lab" in Morocco, which will provide training and resources for local developers. Huawei will contribute its cloud computing and 5G expertise to support the development and distribution of games. This move is part of Morocco's broader strategy to position itself as a technology and creative industries hub in Africa.
The partnership also focuses on nurturing local talent, with plans to integrate game development into educational programs and support startups in the sector. Moroccan officials have highlighted the potential for job creation and economic diversification through the growing global gaming market.
This development follows Morocco's increased investment in its digital infrastructure and tech ecosystem, seeking to capitalize on a young, tech-savvy population. The gaming industry is seen as a key growth area for the country's digital economy.
