According to a report by the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS), Morocco faces a significant challenge with 1.7 million young people aged 15 to 24 classified as NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). The report highlights that approximately 300,000 students drop out of school each year, contributing to this population.
The PCNS report notes that while the 'Second Chance Schools' (Écoles de la deuxième chance) have an 81% integration rate, these programs are insufficient to address the scale of the issue. Additionally, 63% of associations working in this sector lack adequate resources, limiting their impact.
The NEET population represents a substantial portion of Morocco's youth, with implications for economic development and social stability. The report calls for more comprehensive policies to tackle the root causes of early school leaving and to improve the effectiveness of existing interventions.
