Morocco and Mexico have moved to strengthen their bilateral economic and political relations, with a focus on increasing investment and fostering dialogue. The commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting between Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alicia BΓ‘rcena, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York in September 2023.
Both nations expressed a shared desire to elevate their partnership, particularly in economic sectors. Discussions highlighted the potential for collaboration in agriculture, renewable energy, and the automotive industry. The diplomatic talks also covered political coordination on multilateral issues.
The relationship has seen gradual development, with the establishment of a Joint Commission in 2005 serving as a key framework for cooperation. While trade volumes remain modest, both governments have identified mutual interest in expanding commercial exchanges and encouraging business delegations.
This renewed engagement is part of Morocco's broader strategy to deepen ties with Latin American countries and Mexico's aim to diversify its international partnerships. The diplomatic dialogue underscores a mutual commitment to a rules-based international order.
