The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed the appeal filed by the Moroccan National Olympic Committee (CNOM) against the African Union (AU). The appeal concerned the AU's decision to annull all results, medals, and prize money obtained by Moroccan athletes at the 2025 African Games in Accra, Ghana.
The dispute stemmed from Morocco's participation in the games under its national flag, which the AU deemed a violation of its Executive Council's decision. That decision had stipulated that Moroccan athletes could only participate under a neutral flag due to the ongoing dispute over the membership of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).
Consequently, the AU Executive Council directed the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) to cancel Morocco's results from the games. The CAS panel found that the CNOM had failed to demonstrate that the AU's decision was unlawful or violated any fundamental principles of law.
This ruling upholds the original sanctions, meaning Morocco officially loses the 57 medals (17 gold, 19 silver, 21 bronze) it won in Accra. The associated prize money, reported to be approximately $450,000, is also forfeited.
