On May 18, 2026, Morocco and Liberia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Rabat to strengthen their security cooperation. The agreement was signed by Moroccan Minister of Interior Abdelouafi Laftit and Liberian Minister of Justice and Attorney General Natu Oswald Tweh, according to the Moroccan state news agency MAP.
The MoU covers several areas, including counterterrorism, border security, and the fight against organized crime. Both countries expressed a commitment to enhancing information sharing and capacity building in security matters.
This agreement is part of Morocco's broader strategy to deepen ties with African nations, particularly in the Sahel and West Africa regions, where security challenges are prevalent. Liberia, recovering from past conflicts, seeks to bolster its security infrastructure through international partnerships.
