Morocco has taken a significant step in its digital sovereignty strategy with the signing of a convention to launch strategic studies for the "Igoudar Dakhla" project. The initiative aims to develop a large-scale green data center complex in the Dakhla region.
The agreement was signed by the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN), and the Regional Council of Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab. The project is part of a national strategy to position Morocco as a regional digital hub and secure its data infrastructure.
The "Igoudar Dakhla" project is designed to leverage the region's significant potential for renewable energy, particularly wind and solar power, to ensure the data centers operate with a low carbon footprint. This aligns with Morocco's broader commitments to sustainable development and energy transition.
While the initial convention focuses on launching strategic and technical studies, the project's full scale and timeline for construction remain under development. The initiative represents a long-term investment in the country's technological infrastructure and economic development in the southern provinces.
