Morocco has launched a new digital platform, Yahasra.org, dedicated to documenting Jewish cemeteries across the country. The initiative aims to preserve the memory of Morocco's Jewish heritage, which dates back over 2,000 years.
According to the platform's creators, Yahasra.org is the largest database of its kind, cataloging thousands of tombstones and burial sites. The project was developed with the support of the Moroccan Ministry of Culture and the Foundation for Jewish Heritage.
The platform allows users to search for specific graves, view photographs, and access historical records. It is part of broader efforts to preserve Jewish sites in Morocco, which was once home to a vibrant Jewish community of over 250,000 people.
Today, fewer than 2,000 Jews remain in Morocco, but the country has invested in restoring synagogues, museums, and cemeteries. The launch of Yahasra.org is seen as a step toward safeguarding this cultural legacy for future generations.
