Morocco officially signed the Artemis Accords on April 30, 2026, becoming the 45th nation to join the U.S.-led framework for peaceful and cooperative space exploration. The signing took place during a ceremony at the Moroccan Embassy in Washington, D.C., with Ambassador Youssef Amrani representing the North African kingdom.
The Artemis Accords, established in 2020 under the Trump administration, outline principles for responsible space exploration, including transparency, interoperability, and the peaceful use of outer space. Morocco's accession aligns with its growing investment in space technology, including the launch of its first satellite, Mohammed VI-A, in 2017.
NASA Administrator Bill Nelson welcomed Morocco's participation, stating, 'We are thrilled to welcome Morocco to the Artemis Accords. This partnership will enhance international collaboration and open new opportunities for scientific discovery.' The Accords now include a diverse range of countries from all continents, reflecting a global commitment to space governance.
