The 2026 International Cello Competition, organized by the Moroccan Philharmonic Orchestra (OPM), is currently underway in Casablanca and Rabat. The event is held under the high patronage of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, which underscores its cultural significance.

The competition, which began on March 20, 2026, and runs until March 29, 2026, features 24 young cellists from 17 countries. Participants hail from nations including Germany, Brazil, Canada, China, South Korea, Romania, and Switzerland, reflecting the event's international scope.

The jury is presided over by renowned cellist Gautier Capuçon. The competition's semi-finals and finals are scheduled to take place at the Grand Théâtre de Casablanca and the Mohammed VI National Theater in Rabat, respectively.

The event aims to promote classical music and cultural exchange, positioning Morocco as a hub for high-level artistic encounters. The winner will receive a prize of 100,000 Moroccan dirhams and opportunities for international concert engagements.
