The Marchica E-Foil Trophy, scheduled from May 8 to 10, 2026, in the Marchica lagoon near Nador, Morocco, marks the first time an African venue has been included in the SFT Surf Foil World Tour – E-Foil World Cup. This event is a milestone for the sport on the continent.
According to the official SFT Surf Foil World Tour calendar, the 2026 season includes stops in Europe, Asia, and now Africa. The Marchica lagoon was selected for its calm, shallow waters and consistent wind conditions, which are ideal for e-foil racing. The event is organized in partnership with the Marchica Med development agency and the Moroccan Royal Federation of Surfing and Bodyboarding.
E-foil racing involves athletes riding hydrofoil boards powered by electric motors, reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h. The competition format includes time trials and head-to-head races. The Marchica Trophy is expected to attract top international riders from countries including France, Spain, and the United States.
Local officials have expressed hope that the event will boost tourism and position Nador as a hub for water sports in North Africa. The Moroccan Ministry of Tourism has supported the initiative as part of its strategy to diversify the country's sports tourism offerings.
