According to the latest forecast from Morocco's General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM), the ongoing heatwave affecting several regions of the country is expected to persist and intensify from Thursday, July 30, 2026. The DGM warns that temperatures will rise significantly in the southeastern provinces, the Oriental region, and the Souss-Massa area.
Maximum temperatures are forecast to reach between 42°C and 47°C in these areas, with the highest readings expected in the interior of the Souss and the southeast. The DGM has issued a level orange vigilance warning for these regions, advising residents to take precautions against the extreme heat.
The heatwave is attributed to a mass of hot, dry air from the Sahara, which is being drawn northward by a low-pressure system over the western Mediterranean. This pattern is expected to persist through the weekend, with only a slight drop in temperatures expected early next week.
Authorities recommend staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.), and checking on vulnerable individuals such as the elderly and those with chronic health conditions. The DGM continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
