At a high-level panel held during GITEX Africa Morocco in Marrakech, Omar Hilale, Morocco's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, outlined the kingdom's strategic vision for artificial intelligence (AI) as a vehicle for soft power and continental leadership. Hilale emphasized that Morocco is uniquely positioned to leverage AI not only for domestic development but also to strengthen its influence across Africa and on the global stage.
Hilale highlighted Morocco's ambitions to position itself as a regional AI hub, citing the country's investments in digital infrastructure, its growing tech ecosystem, and its role as a bridge between Africa, the Arab world, and Europe. He stressed that AI governance, ethical frameworks, and inclusive access to technology are central to Morocco's approach, particularly in the context of the African continent's development needs.
