On the occasion of World Meteorological Day, observed annually on March 23, Morocco's National Directorate of Meteorology (DMN) has announced a significant expansion of its national weather observation network. The initiative aims to enhance the country's capacity for atmospheric monitoring and weather forecasting.
The DMN stated that the reinforcement includes the installation of new automatic weather stations and the modernization of existing infrastructure. This upgrade is part of a broader strategy to improve the accuracy of weather predictions and climate data collection across the Kingdom.
World Meteorological Day 2026 focuses on the theme "At the frontline of climate action," highlighting the critical role of national meteorological services. The DMN's network expansion is aligned with this global call for enhanced environmental monitoring to support climate adaptation and resilience efforts.
The improved network is expected to provide more precise data for sectors such as agriculture, water resource management, and disaster risk reduction, contributing to Morocco's national development and climate strategy.
