The Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication announced the winners of the 56th edition of the Morocco Book Prize (Prix du Maroc du Livre) on June 23, 2026, following jury deliberations. The awards recognize outstanding Moroccan publications across multiple categories.
According to the official statement, 11 works were honored in categories including literature, social sciences, scientific and technical works, and Amazigh culture. The Grand Prize was awarded to Dr. Ahmed Taoufiq for his novel 'Al-Murabitoun' (The Almoravids). Other notable winners include Fatima Mernissi (posthumous) for her sociological study 'Women in the Islamic World' and Dr. Hassan Ouazzani for his medical research on cardiovascular diseases.
The jury, composed of academics and literary figures, evaluated over 200 submissions. The prize aims to promote reading and recognize intellectual contributions in Morocco. Each winner receives a cash prize of 100,000 Moroccan dirhams (approximately $10,000 USD).
The ceremony took place at the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco in Rabat, attended by Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid. The event also featured a tribute to late Moroccan writer Driss ChraΓ―bi.
