Morocco's National Railway Office (ONCF) has confirmed plans to build a rail link to the upcoming Gotion High-Tech battery factory in the Kenitra region. The announcement was made on August 14, 2026, during a meeting between ONCF and Moroccan officials.
The dedicated rail connection will facilitate the transport of raw materials and finished batteries, reducing road congestion and improving efficiency. The project is part of Morocco's broader strategy to boost its industrial infrastructure and support the growing electric vehicle supply chain.
Gotion High-Tech, a Chinese battery manufacturer, is investing heavily in the Kenitra plant, which is expected to become one of the largest battery production facilities in Africa. The rail link is scheduled to be operational by the time the plant starts production in 2027.
This development underscores Morocco's commitment to becoming a key player in the global electric vehicle market, leveraging its strategic location and trade agreements with Europe and the United States.
