Morocco and Chile have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening economic ties, with a focus on increasing bilateral trade and investment. The agreement was reached during a virtual meeting between Moroccan Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour and Chilean Minister of Foreign Affairs Alberto van Klaveren on June 9, 2026.
Both ministers highlighted the potential for cooperation in key sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, mining, and technology. They emphasized the importance of leveraging existing trade agreements and exploring new opportunities to enhance economic integration.
According to official statements, the two countries aim to diversify their trade portfolio, which currently includes phosphates and fertilizers from Morocco and copper and lithium from Chile. The meeting also touched on the possibility of joint ventures in green hydrogen production, given both nations' ambitions in renewable energy.
The discussions are part of broader efforts to strengthen South-South cooperation and align with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the Pacific Alliance, of which Chile is a member. No specific targets or timelines were announced, but both sides expressed optimism about future collaboration.
