Morocco has allocated 370 million Moroccan dirhams (about $37 million) for the installation of the pitch and the construction of stands at the Grand Stade Hassan II in Benslimane, as the country prepares to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
The contracts, reported by Moroccan media, cover two essential components of the stadium: the natural grass playing surface and the tiered seating areas. The stadium, which broke ground in 2023, is expected to have a capacity of 115,000, making it one of the largest in the world.
According to official plans, the Grand Stade Hassan II is scheduled for completion by 2028, well ahead of the World Cup. The project is part of Morocco's broader infrastructure investment for the tournament, which also includes upgrades to other stadiums and transport networks.
The stadium's design, by the architecture firm Oualalou + Choi, features a grand tribune inspired by traditional Moroccan social gatherings, and it will be surrounded by a landscaped park. The pitch will meet FIFA's highest standards, with advanced drainage and irrigation systems to ensure optimal playing conditions.
