Morocco has introduced a special customs clearance reduction for Moroccan residents abroad (MRE) aged 60 and older, allowing them to benefit from a 90% reduction on vehicle import duties. The measure, confirmed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, is accessible through an online simulator on the official customs website (www.douane.gov.ma).
The simulator, launched in 2025, allows users to calculate standard or reduced customs fees based on vehicle age, engine size, and fuel type. For eligible MREs, the 90% abatement applies to the total customs duties, significantly lowering the cost of importing a vehicle into Morocco.
To qualify, applicants must be Moroccan nationals residing abroad, aged 60 or over on the date of application, and must not have benefited from a similar reduction in the past five years. The vehicle must be less than five years old and comply with Moroccan technical standards.
The initiative aims to facilitate the return of elderly Moroccans living abroad and strengthen ties with the diaspora. According to official data, over 5 million Moroccans live abroad, with a significant portion aged 60 and above.
