The Association of Regions of Morocco (ARM) and the WestMED Initiative co-organized a major conference in Rabat on March 31, 2026, to develop a national strategy for the blue economy. The event brought together over 150 institutional leaders, presidents of regional councils, economic actors, and international partners to discuss sustainable maritime development.
The conference focused on key sectors such as sustainable fisheries, aquaculture, port logistics, marine renewable energies, and coastal tourism. Participants emphasized the need for integrated governance and regional cooperation to harness Morocco's maritime potential while preserving marine ecosystems.
This meeting is part of the broader WestMED Initiative, a European Union-led effort for sustainable development in the western Mediterranean. The outcomes are expected to feed into Morocco's national policy framework, aligning regional actions with international sustainability goals.
