Morocco's lemon exports have surged to unprecedented levels, with official data from the Ministry of Agriculture showing a record 200,000 tons shipped in 2025, a 15% increase from the previous year. This growth is attributed to expanded production in the Souss-Massa region and improved irrigation techniques.
New markets in Asia, particularly China and Japan, have opened up, alongside traditional European buyers like France and Spain. The Moroccan Citrus Exporters Association confirmed that exports to China alone rose by 40% in 2025, driven by a free trade agreement signed in 2024.
However, challenges remain, including water scarcity in key growing regions and competition from Spain and Turkey. The government has invested in drip irrigation and research to boost yields sustainably.
