Morocco's High Commission for Planning (HCP) reported an improvement in the household confidence index for the first quarter of 2026. The index rose to 86.1 points, up from 84.8 points in the previous quarter, indicating a slight recovery in consumer sentiment.
Despite this quarterly gain, the overall level of household confidence remains below its long-term average of 100 points. The HCP noted that households continue to express significant pessimism regarding their future financial situation and the general economic outlook for the next 12 months.
The primary concerns cited by Moroccan households are the persistent high cost of living and unemployment. A majority of surveyed households reported a deterioration in their standard of living over the past year and anticipate further financial strain.
The HCP's report suggests that while the slight uptick in confidence may reflect short-term adjustments, underlying economic pressures continue to weigh heavily on consumer morale and spending intentions.
