A Moroccan appeals court has confirmed the prison sentences handed down to individuals involved in violent incidents following the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final. The Rabat Court of Appeal issued its ruling on Monday, April 13, 2026, upholding the initial verdicts from a lower court.
The case stems from clashes and disturbances that occurred in Morocco after the final match between Morocco and Senegal on February 9, 2025. The incidents, which involved some Senegalese supporters, led to arrests and subsequent legal proceedings.
The court confirmed sentences ranging from six months to two years in prison for charges including violence against public officials, destruction of property, and participation in an armed gathering. The defendants were also ordered to pay fines and compensation for damages caused.
Moroccan authorities have emphasized that the legal actions were taken against individuals for specific criminal acts, not against supporters of any particular team. The Ministry of the Interior had previously stated that the incidents were isolated and that the tournament overall was a success for the host nation.
