In 2025, the Moroccan film industry released 26 feature-length films, collectively earning 130 million Moroccan dirhams (MAD) at the box office, according to data from the Centre Cinématographique Marocain (CCM). This marks a significant milestone for the sector, which has been steadily recovering from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The CCM reported that the number of cinema admissions reached approximately 1.5 million in 2025, driven by a diverse slate of local productions. The top-grossing Moroccan film of the year was 'Le Bleu du Caftan' by director Maryam Touzani, which earned over 20 million MAD and was also selected as Morocco's official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards.
Industry experts attribute the growth to increased government support through the Fonds d'Aide au Cinéma, which allocated 50 million MAD in 2025 to support production and distribution. Additionally, the expansion of multiplex cinemas in cities like Casablanca, Rabat, and Marrakech has improved access for audiences.
Despite these gains, challenges remain, including competition from international blockbusters and piracy. The CCM has launched an anti-piracy campaign and is working with streaming platforms to expand legal distribution channels for Moroccan films.
