Singapore's Ministry of Manpower (MOM) is investigating an incident in which a domestic helper was observed cleaning windows while standing on a narrow ledge outside a 24th-floor unit at a condominium in Lentor. The incident, which occurred on May 25, 2026, was reported by a concerned neighbor who captured a photo of the helper on the ledge.
According to a spokesperson for MOM, the ministry is looking into the matter to determine if any safety regulations were violated. Under Singapore's Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, employers are required to ensure the safety of their domestic workers, including providing safe working conditions. The helper, who is employed by a family residing in the condo, was not wearing any safety harness or protective gear at the time.
The condominium's management has also been alerted and is cooperating with authorities. In a statement, the management said it has reminded all residents to adhere to safety guidelines and to not engage helpers in dangerous tasks such as cleaning exterior windows at height. The identity of the helper and the employer have not been disclosed.
This incident has sparked public concern over the safety of domestic workers in Singapore, with netizens calling for stricter enforcement of safety protocols. MOM has urged anyone with information about unsafe working conditions for helpers to report it to the ministry.
