Authorities have identified the remains of a woman found in 1993 near Bone Lake in Wisconsin as Barbara Ann Kelly, who had been missing since 1990. The identification was made possible through advanced DNA testing and genetic genealogy, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Kelly, 29 at the time of her disappearance, was last seen in July 1990 in the Twin Cities area. Her remains were discovered by a hunter in a wooded area near Bone Lake in Polk County in October 1993. The case had remained unsolved for decades.
Sheriff Brent Waak stated that the investigation into her death is ongoing, and no arrests have been made. The identification brings closure to Kelly's family after 33 years of uncertainty.
