Microsoft has announced plans to remove the Sidebar feature from its Edge browser, a move that has sparked a user petition with over 10,000 signatures. The Sidebar, which allows quick access to apps like calculator, translator, and other tools, is being phased out as part of Microsoft's effort to simplify the browser.
According to a Microsoft spokesperson, 'We're simplifying Edge. New apps can no longer be added, and the quick access list will be removed gradually in future updates.' The company has not specified a timeline for the full removal, but users have already started a petition on Change.org titled 'Save Edge Sidebar,' which has garnered over 10,000 signatures as of May 2026.
One user commented, 'I am literally only on Edge for that very reason,' highlighting the feature's importance for productivity. The petition argues that the Sidebar is a key differentiator from competitors like Chrome and Firefox. Microsoft has not responded to the petition yet.
