Mbappé opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a powerful strike from outside the box, then added a second goal in the 68th minute from a close-range finish. France's third goal came from an own goal by Swedish defender Victor Lindelöf in the 82nd minute.
The 27-year-old French forward now shares the Golden Boot lead with Messi, who scored his sixth goal earlier in the tournament. Both players are vying for the top scorer award as the competition progresses to the quarterfinals.
France will face the winner of the match between Portugal and Switzerland in the next round. Mbappé's performance continues his impressive World Cup record, having scored eight goals in the 2022 tournament and now six in 2026.
Sweden's elimination marks the end of their campaign, having advanced from the group stage as runners-up in Group F. The match was played at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis.
