Defender Maxence Lacroix has been called up to the French national team for the first time. The 25-year-old, who plays for German club VfL Wolfsburg, was named in coach Didier Deschamps's squad for the upcoming friendly matches against Germany and Chile in late March 2026.
Lacroix began his professional career at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, coming through the club's academy. He made over 40 appearances for Sochaux before transferring to Wolfsburg in the summer of 2020 for a reported fee of €5 million.
At Wolfsburg, Lacroix has established himself as a key central defender, known for his physical strength and pace. His consistent performances in the Bundesliga over several seasons have now been rewarded with international recognition.
The call-up comes as France prepares for its final fixtures before assembling a squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Lacroix will join a defensive unit that includes established stars like William Saliba and Dayot Upamecano.
