Jordan Martinook delivered a dramatic overtime goal to lead the Carolina Hurricanes to a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night. The goal came at 2:18 of the extra period, capping a thrilling playoff contest.
Martinook, a veteran forward known for his gritty play, received a pass from Sebastian Aho and fired a wrist shot past Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark. The goal sent the home crowd into a frenzy and gave the Hurricanes a 2-1 series lead in the best-of-seven first-round matchup.
The Senators had rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the third period, with goals from Tim StΓΌtzle and Brady Tkachuk to force overtime. However, Martinook's heroics sealed the win for Carolina.
"It's a moment you dream about as a kid," Martinook said in a post-game interview. "The guys battled hard, and we found a way to get it done."
The series continues with Game 4 scheduled for Thursday night in Raleigh.
