According to reports, the cost of the renovation is several billion dirhams, though the exact figure has not been officially confirmed. The stadium, originally built for the 1994 African Cup of Nations, has hosted various sporting events and concerts over the years.
The renovation is part of a larger effort by Morocco to upgrade its football infrastructure ahead of the World Cup. Other stadiums, including the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier and the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, are also being renovated or rebuilt.
